Now in its tenth successful year, the Spirit of the Land Festival is a colourful and vibrant celebration of the land. With artistic sculptures, fine arts and photography, lively markets, boutique stalls, fabulous foods, vivid open gardens, amazing entertainment, stylish vintage vehicles and a fabulous Harley Davidson display, the Festival is a fantastic experience for friends and family to enjoy.
A highlight of the Festival is the National Farm Art Awards. Discover creative and talented masterpieces fashioned from recycled metal, rusty old farm materials and elements of the land. The standard of these sculptures are very high and the event is one of the main festivals in the region. With a prize of $10,000 for the overall winner, these unique sculptures are more than good, they are amazing!
A wonderful aspect of the Spirit of the Land Festival is how it began during the worse drought in Lockhart’s recorded history as a celebration to the resilience of those who live and work on the land. From the very first, the Spirit of the Land has proved an outstanding success – reviving community spirit, inspiring enthusiasm and putting a small town well and truly on the Festival map.
The beautiful main street in Lockhart, with its ornate verandahs and historic etched pavers, hosts nearly 80 market stalls, while the Lagoon gardens offers great food under a canopy of shady green. Garden lovers will enjoy the trail of town and country gardens open over the weekend, and the Tuckerbox Antiques Auction is sure to draw a crowd. Noel Stallard, renowned Bush Poet, will be performing on the Saturday, and there will be live music for all to enjoy.
This year the Spirit of the Land Festival will be held on Saturday, 8th and Sunday, 9th October, following the fabulous Lockhart Picnic Races on Friday, 7th October. Visit www.lockhartpicnicraces.com/ for more information.
