Green’s Gunyah, as the hotel was originally known, first appeared on a surveyor’s map in 1851, and became a roadside shanty about 1865.  By 1864, Green had turned his hut into a roadside inn and a store and blacksmith’s  shop soon emerged as Green’s Inn became a changing post for horses working the coach routes.  The hotel was rebuilt in 1939 and renamed New Gunyah Hotel.  The original stables still exist at the rear, but the hotel stopped trading in 1999.

This year at the 2017 Spirit of the Land Festival, new life will be breathed into the grand old pub, as we utilize its iconic outdoor beer garden and backyard, to house the newly established ARTISAN CENTRE, offering short workshops for the enjoyment of Festival goers.

Housed in the all-weather beer garden at Lockhart’s historic New Gunyah Hotel, the Artisan Centre offers Spirit of the Land festival goers added opportunity to immerse themselves in a ‘complete country experience’, through participation.

The purpose of the Artisan Centre is to showcase the amazing artistic and creative talents of country people, providing visitors to Spirit of the Land with an opportunity to learn new skills and leave with a finished product of their own making.

Each Artisan class will provide you with a fully included kit to complete your project, so all you need to do is book in, bring yourself along and enjoy!

  • To allocate resources, each participant will be required to pre-book the classes and pay a 25% deposit at the time of booking;
  • Each class will be restricted to a maximum of 6 participants to allow personalised tuition;
  • Prices will be in accordance with the length and resources involved to make your creation.

Book early to avoid disappointment as we envisage the Artisan Centre will be a popular addition to the Spirit of the Land festivities!!

We look forward to seeing you there for a fun and informative day.
